Here’s a step-by-step guide to help listeners who may be new to podcasts. It’s an utterly shameless ripoff of a similar page developed by the wonderful folks at Criminal over at the Vox Media Podcast Network.

If you get stuck, email me for help. I’m at wade@soonishpodcast.org.

On the Soonish website

This option works best if you’re sitting at your laptop or desktop. Find the episode you want to hear on our home page and click the play button. Or browse through our Episodes page, find an episode you’d like to hear, then click through to the episode page and click the play button there.

On an iPhone or iPad

Open the Podcast app. It’s a pre-loaded app with a purple icon. (If you’re reading this on your iPhone or iPad right now, skip over the next steps by tapping this link.)

  1. Search for Soonish.

Tap on the magnifying glass icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Type in “Soonish” and select it from the list of results.

  2. Listen.

Once you’re on the show’s page, click on the big black button that says “Latest episode” to hear the most recent episode (assuming you have an internet connection).

  3. Subscribe.

If you like the show and you’d like to have new episodes appear on your phone as soon as they’re published, tap the “+” (plus) button in the upper right corner of the screen. You can also adjust your notifications to receive a message when a new episode arrives.

You can also follow similar steps to find and subscribe to the show in any popular podcast app, such as Pocket Casts (my personal favorite), Overcast, Stitcher Pandora, Spotify, Amazon Music, or Google Podcasts.

On an Android phone or Android tablet

First you’ll need to download the Google Podcasts app. It may be pre-installed on your phone. It’s white with a colorful waveform in the middle.

  1. Search for Soonish.
In the search box at the top of the screen, search for “Soonish,” and select it from the list of results.

  2. Subscribe.
Once on the show’s page, tap “+ Subscribe” to have new episodes sent to your phone free.

  3. Or try before subscribing.
If you would rather listen to an episode or two before deciding whether to subscribe, click on the episode title from the list on the show page. If you have an internet connection, you’ll be able to listen to the episodes.

Just as with iOS, you can also follow similar steps to find and subscribe to the show in any popular podcast app available for Android.
